"Need to know about Men's Fitting? Fashion in mens underwear is rapidly changing.
Choices aren't limited to a 3-pack of tighty-whities or voluminous boxers with goofy prints. Now, men have countless design choices.
This page is a summary of some of the necessities in men's fashions and fitting."
Just like with women's underwear, sizing on men's underwear can vary from one manufacturer to another. And, as on HerRoom,
HisRoom uses the same sizing the manufacturer does. If you've purchased a brand before, just order whatever size you usually do.
The best way to get the right size is to measure and we provide a measuring guide below.
Every product on HisRoom also has a sizing chart to help you choose the right size once you have his measurements.
However, since it's not always opportune to have your man stand there while you measure, we also suggest checking the sizes
on the underwear in his drawer now. Despite variations from manufacturer to manufacturer, that should give you a pretty decent idea.
We do have some tips to take the mystery out of men's underwear sizing:
• Most of our men's underwear is sized according to a man's waist size - not his pouch or cup size. Our sizing charts can help you
determine the proper size.
• If his waist measurement falls between sizes on the chart or is on the borderline, order the size larger or smaller based on the
style or type of fit he prefers.
• Sizes are also based on waistband size for athletic wear such as jockstraps. Again, for borderline sizes, choose a size
up or down depending on a man's preference for what type of fit he's comfortable with. Jock straps will mold to a man's shape over
time, with washing and wearing.
Measuring Him Properly
How & What to Measure
Unlike bras, which involve calculations to determine size, with men's underwear the number of inches measured generally equals his
size. Don't measure over shirts or pants.
With his arms at his sides, measure around his upper body under his armpits and over the fullest part of his chest and shoulder
blades, keeping tape parallel to the floor.
His arm should be bent at 90 degrees, with his hand on his hip. Start measuring at the center of the back of his neck and measure
across the shoulder, down to the elbow, then to the wrist. This will give you the sleeve measurement.
Measure around your body at the position you normally wear your pants. Make sure your measuring tape is horizontal with the floor.
Another option is to measure the waistband of a well-fitting pair of pants (zippered and closed).
“Should underwear be washed before wearing?”
That's what we recommend. Most items will feel more comfortable and fit correctly after they've been washed.
As with any other clothing, wash underwear with "like" colors to avoid discoloration, i.e., whites with whites, pastels with
pastels, and darks with darks. Use non-chlorine bleach when needed and remove garments promptly from dryer to reduce wrinkling.
